New Year celebrations came and went, for thousands a non-event, as bushfires raged across Australia.

It will take years for our bush to recover, sadly, with the intensity of the fires, landscapes we knew may change forever. Many a tear would have been shed at home and around the world as horrific images and stories were uploaded almost instantaneously.

At home, watching birdlife flitting here and there, catching small insects and feeding on nectar from our flowering native plants, my mind brings up an image of those folk who weren’t as fortunate as us and have lost everything save their memories.

We wholeheartedly express our gratitude and thanks to those firefighters and other emergency volunteers and staff for protecting and assisting our communities.
