New baby on the Bluff

Kolin and Karen Koel have become ‘parents’.

Being brood parasites they have left Red Wattlebird foster parents to raise their chick.

A single egg is laid in a host birdsnest. Upon hatching, the Eastern Koel chick forces hosts’ eggs and hatchlings out.

It becomes a full time job for the much smaller foster parents to find food for this demanding youngster.
